It is just a gang of Matchbox Kids who loved collecting the iconic toys and turning their hobby into a social gathering. But life always changes as you get older, even more-so when one of them turns out to be a spy and drags them all into a deadly espionage situation that takes them around the globe. At least the non-spies all have a talent that will come handy in these situations, and the writers do a fun job in setting it up nicely. The fighting scenes with Crena are always spot-on, and the over-the-top action is done to perfection (wouldn't expect anything less from a stunt person turn director). I love this pilot episode so much. It's gritty and raw and funny and a hint of darkness. Chandler is a great actor for this character and Pierre supports him well. I can't wait for the next episode. Typically video game adaptations strip out a lot of the gameplay sections and try to focus on the story and lore. Resident Evil takes the opposite approach. It removes any real connectivity to the characters or story of Resident Evil, really just using loose references to Umbrella and Raccoon City to instead focus on capturing the atmosphere of the games instead. It's a radical approach, and if you can divorce yourself from the need of characters like Leon Kennedy, it works shockingly well. Unlike Creggar's prior movies, there aren't a ton of unique twists to the story. It's a straightforward mission. However, Resident Evil retains Creggar's unique blend of comedy and horror. There is a surprising amount of laugh-out-loud comedy here, but it always remains balanced against the rest of the movie. Austin Abrams has fantastic comedic timing and line deliveries, and Creggar pokes fun at plenty of horror and game tropes throughout. At roughly 90 minutes of runtime, the movie feels incredibly efficient, propulsive and never boring, instantly jumping into the action and constantly changing up the set pieces to keep things fresh. The cinematography is sharp and distinctive from the very first set piece, utilizing colors, swiveling cameras, and first person "video game" perspectives to build atmosphere. The score is actually really well-designed. It fades in and out throughout, leaving plenty of quiet moments but knowing when to create a high-intensity rhythmic beat at others. There are effective jump scares and unique character designs throughout. While the movie may not reference characters or stories from Resident Evil, it is clear Creggar is deeply familiar with the franchise as there are plenty of nods to various game mechanics. These are moments that only people who play the games will recognize, but they illustrate how the silliness and campiness of some of the restrictions from the games actually translate into a movie. The movie's reputation will unfortunately be marred by people who wanted a version of the game stories, and as a big fan of the gaming franchise, I get where they are coming from. However, Creggar has done something much more interesting with this movie that still very much honors the games, and it is worth watching with an open mind. I will flag that I am still not sure how I feel about the ending of the movie, but that's a small nitpick. At the end of the day, this is just a very fun horror-comedy movie, easy to watch, adrenaline-generating, and most importantly, just a blast to watch on the large screen.Resident Evil - eriklangen3d ago

Ever since The Transporter, it feels like many of Statham's movies have followed a similar formula: he's an ex-special forces guy, ex-cop, bodyguard, or some other highly skilled badass who gets caught up in a dangerous situation and spends the rest of the movie beating everyone up. As for Mutiny, some of the action scenes are well done and fun to watch, but there simply isn't enough action to make the film particularly exciting. The story is also pretty generic: he's working as a bodyguard, his billionaire boss gets murdered, and he gets caught up in the aftermath. Then the movie throws in a human-trafficking angle and an international conspiracy to make things more complicated. There was actually a bizarre incident yesterday: Amazon Prime Video accidentally made the entire movie available in the US for roughly an hour on August 19, two days before its scheduled theatrical release. Amazon subsequently removed it. It appears to have been an accidental upload, not an early OTT release. Overall, Mutiny felt pretty average to me. A few solid action moments and Jason Statham's usual presence make it watchable, but the repetitive formula and predictable story keep it from being anything special.Mutiny - elona mlahleniOctober 2, 2026

09: The Ressurrection Timeline 👇 Halloween 1978 ➡️ Halloween 1981 ➡️ Halloween H20 & Halloween Resurrection My Reason Why its Number 09 👉 The return of JLC as Laurie Strode gives this a very cool & interesting angle, and H20 really does feel like a proper and a very well done satisfying conclusion. Then Resurrection happened and totally ruined and undid the whole victory and closure of H20, that's why this timeline is at the very bottom of this ranking. 08: The Thorn Timeline 👇 Halloween 78 ➡️ Halloween 1981 ➡️ Halloween The Return Of Michael Myers ➡️ Halloween 5 The Revenge Of Michael Myers & Halloween The Curse Of Michael Myers. My Reason Why its Number 08 👉 First of all Halloween 4 is a brilliant Halloween movie. But Halloween 5 just like with Halloween Resurrection, completely ruins and undoes H4. And that bone chilling ending of H4 with Jamie Lloyd standing on top of the stairs with the clown costume & mask holding the scissors. It had that sense of full circle to it. A direct replica of the opening in Halloween 78. They should have left it there and started a new timeline. 07: The Rob Zombie Timeline 👇 RZ Halloween 2007 & RZ Halloween 2 My Reason Why its Number 07 👉 I appreciate RZ going for something different but the whole dialogue and seeing unicorns 🦄 and stuff like that is not what Halloween is about. While they are beautifully shot and have good performances in it. There are major plotholes and how they made Dr Loomis an absolute douchebag in Halloween 2009 was unforgivable. 06: The David Gordon Green trilogy 👇 My Reason Why it's Number 06 👉 While there were some of the best moments throghout this entire trilogy of films; however it doesn't justify the fact that plot wise & thematically this trilogy is all over the place. What were they thinking with Halloween Ends, it doesn't feel coherently connected to the trilogy at all. 05: The Season Of The Witch Timeline 👇 The most standout and blacksheep of the Halloween franchise, in the best way possible. It's the only Halloween film that doesn't have Michael Myers in it, apart from the Halloween 78 cameo on the TV 📺 But as much as I love "Season Of The Witch" and am a huge defender of that film; however at the same time though, they shouldn't have put in the Halloween universe and should have just had it as it's own separate thing altogether. Because if you took the Halloween title from it and don't have any of the cameos; then you wouldn't know it was part of the Halloween franchise. And yet its one of my absolute favourite entries in the entire franchise. Epic, impressive, and a great theater experience for the big screen. But I’m not sure I need to watch it again? If I watched this movie on an airplane I think I’d be bored? No impressive score, pacing of the story was messy, actors were fine, a few cool moments, but overall I didn’t think it was a life-changing movie. (Cait, Co-President) Matthew Rhys can do anything. It may just be an opinion, but it is one I think a lot of people share. That said, I’ve never seen him do what he does in Widow’s Bay. He walks a line of comedy, drama, and horror with ease – transitioning from one to another seeming ease. LanternsCoach Taylor as a superhero?!
(Emily, Co-President) I’m not usually the first person to jump at a superhero show, normally I wait for people to recommend / tell me I’m going to like it. But HBO has a way of putting a spin on things that makes me lean in and want to watch. And it usually comes down to the characters and the dynamics between them. So, yes, I am both curious and excited about Lanterns. With Damon Lindelof (Lost, Watchmen) and Chris Mundy (Ozark) behind the series, I’m expecting this to be more than just a superhero story. Knowing the show starts out with having to solve a murder in small-town America, but then turns into something much bigger, while also having a buddy-cop dynamic, and ALL the Green Lantern mythology…there’s going to be a lot that to dive into. I’m really interested to see what Lindelof and Mundy bring to this world—especially the relationship between John Stewart and Hal Jordan, and how it develops as they have to work together. Give me complicated characters, interesting dynamics, and a little mystery, and I’m in. And then there’s Kyle Chandler. If for no other reason, I will tune in for Kyle Chandler.
