- Aabracadabra let Bullock and Kidman brew their spell, for looking this good at 60 must surely involve a deal with hell. Stir in some nostalgia, romance and cheese, enough to make a grown witch weak at the knees. And wait, dear witches, before we close the door, do Americans have custard? I must know for sure!? A charming brew, though not quite divine, three and a half stars for this Witchy little time. Double, double, toil and trouble, someone pass the lime and the coconut, and make it a double!
- Two films and Stockard never sang, “🎶 Look at me! / I’m Sandra B 🎶” smh what a missed opportunity She mentioned the Cool Whip in the car!! “Who could possibly be doing this dark magic? Oh yeah, my former student that was super into dark magic.” lmfao “What could go wrong, right?” Wtf girl you are oblivious as hell This could have all been avoided if Dianne Wiest hadn’t punted a job she easily could have done to her sister who had to sacrifice quite a bit more! Good planning! The story was basic and the villain was obvious but it was better than the first! Maisie Williams was extremely underutilized! - watching practical magic for the first time was revelatory for me; it felt so warm and saccharine, full of light and life. watching this sequel was disappointing and i felt ambivalent at best. so much of it feels hollow, from the gratuitous product placement to the dearth of chemistry between sandra bullock and lee pace to the brilliant choice to center the story around sisterhood (like the original) only to completely sideline one of sally’s daughters for a majority of the film. antonia deserved better. some of the music choices were also insane. there are moments where it works perfectly, like “landslide” by fleetwood mac playing during a touching scene. others are baffling, like “the cure” by olivia rodrigo playing in a completely jarring and tonally conflicting moment. i also don’t understand why anyone would choose to play a cover of “fade into you” by mazzy star when nothing comes close to the original.
- Feel like this wasn’t just a repeat of the first, like so many other nostalgic sequels. Sandra and Nicole are amazing with Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing bringing back the magic and margaritas… they certainly put the Lime in the Coconut once again. Very happy with this return to Practical Magic after 29 Years. Worth the wait!
