Where to Watch Toy Story
- First time watching this in almost 25 years, and somehow it still feels just as good. Woody and Buzz are such a great pair, and Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are perfect in those roles. There’s so much personality in the characters, the humor still works, and I honestly forgot how funny some of the little moments are. The animation was obviously a huge deal when it came out, but what really makes it hold up is how much heart the movie has. The story itself is pretty simple, but I don't think it needs to be anything more than that. It moves along nicely, never feels too long, and manages to be funny and genuinely sweet without getting overly sentimental. The music is great too, and there’s just something really charming about the whole thing. Nearly 25 years later, I still completely understand why this became such a classic.
- I was 6 when Toy Story was released and I was obsessed with it into my teens. I didn’t know at the time I was witnessing the birth of a new era of animation. Watching the progression from Toy Story 1-4 is a fascinating evolution in 3D animation. I didn’t know Bo-Peep was made from porcelain until the 4th movie. On a recent rewatch I was still surprised at how well the animation has held up it certainly doesn’t look or feel “1995” In retrospect, the birth of this new era of animation put the final nail in the coffin of hand drawn cartoons and would put a stranglehold on animation for at least a decade moving forwards. It wouldn’t be until the Spider-Verse that we would see something new and refreshing. A movie so revolutionary that it changed its own category moving forwards forever
