Quite enjoyed this thriller, the plot was easily guessable but it was still an enjoyable movie. I would have changed the ending slightly though

When you know the reveal, subsequent watches are more about spotting the lead up clues to see how the reveal isnt out of nowhere, but rather telegraphed fairly carefully. The reveal itself isnt anything new, weve seen stuff like it before, but it's the carefully contructed movie around it that connects the dots and what is real and what is not that is done so well. Read the context clues and that final scene is nicely dark, which I love myself a dark ending. It's not my favorite Scorsese but it's up there.

I was completely lost in the first half, then I finally understood what was going on, only to realize I was completely wrong in the end. Amazing film—I would say it's a must-watch!

My friend Sean loves this movie. This is my favorite Mark Ruffalo movie because he doesn't talk as much.

Great movie. It moves insanely well and the tidbits of information we're given along the way is master class in building suspense and keeping us guessing. The performances are on point here, the directing is top notch. This is definitely a movie that benefits from multiple re-watches. I'm still picking stuff up on like my 10th viewing. I've mentioned this to a few people personally but the movie is staged like a video-game (which I love). Characters arrive to a secluded island, they're unraveling a mystery and as the story progresses they gain more access to different parts of the island.

I miss the time where a good thriller was at your fingertips. Better yet - when movie night with the family meant something. I was young when I first saw this, so I’m sure an heir of nostalgia allows my memory to highly favor this movie BUT it is a great watch. Although the twists seem predictable, if you’re watching it for the first time I strongly believe that you will be THRILLED. That is the whole point, isn’t it?

Simply put - it's one of those movies that are on the "must watch" list. Any review or splitting hair would is unnecessary.
  • Martin Scorsese has done it again. He pays attention to every detail in this film, making "Shutter Island" one of the best suspense thrillers of all time.

    This is 💯 both Leo's & Scorcese's most underrated & overlooked film!!

I absolutely love how we see "Shutter Island" through the perception of Teddy Daniels. And how it totally reframes & reshapes your whole entire outlook of the entire movie. It totally brings all of the hidden hints & clues that were hidden in plain sight, that you don't pickup on the first time watching it. But then you can't unsee it on future watches afterwards its amazing. I also love the whole setting of the entire island. It really does bring and add that whole atmosphere and creep factor. Along with the films absolutely gorgeous cinematography, really does go hand in hand with the whole setting of the island a 💯 I love all of the performances "Yes" Leo's absolutely phenomenal here, as he always is; but the whole entire cast is absolutely fantastic as well and all play and make there roles their own. A big shout out to Emily Mortimer. I thought her performance out of all the side characters, was one of the strongest. She was brilliant with the short amount of screen time she has in this. I absolutely love how they utilise the storms, as if the storms 🌩 are an analogy of what's going on in "Teddy's" mind. The screenplay is telling us that his mind is starting to fall apart. The film is paced to perfection and both the twist and how the film ends was absolutely done right. Both those aspects in the third act, just enhances and makes everything that came before, come together even more powerfully again. Shutter Island is just one of those films, that absolutely has that endlessly rewatch value; because of how they managed to manipulate us, into thinking that multiple things throughout the movies runtime, all meant one thing on that first time watch, but meant something else completely. That to me, is filmmaking at its best. And psychological/thrillers at there best as well. I absolutely love "Shutter Island" and it's one of my favorite Leonardo Dicaprio & Martin Scorcese films. It's 💯 awesome from start to finish.
