Where to Watch Resident Evil
- I want to like it, but it's just not good. A few highlight moments popped up on social media reels so I decided to revisit, but man it just isn't good at all. And I'll probably watch all the rest of them just to confirm. But ouch. Hopeful the reboot washes the bad taste. I know the series is successful, but I don't understand why.
- 7/10 - If only the others stayed like this, this franchise might have been something more than the tainted sour taste the whole franchise leaves in your mout, and brain after watching it die with each new film. This one is probably the only one that's still worth watching if you're new to these. This movie is much better than any of the others, to me. The others are still okay to watch just not as enjoyable as this first film was, To me. The Formula on the others starts to get a lil played out as they don't change too much beyond this first film here. Only really they get worse as the franchise goes on, Sadly.
- It was a slightly cheesy rewatch, but I still love it because it holds up well on a number of fronts. It has such a great cast (Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Colin Salmon to name a few) with some pretty good practical effects that still hold up and CGI that was clearly not cheap for the day. Also, the themes regarding AI and bioengineering that are in some ways even more relevant now than they were in the early 2000s. I don’t know for sure, but I think this was one of the more/most successful films at the time that was adapted from a video game, and one of the even fewer of the sci-fi/horror crossover genres that made money in the theaters (I think Tomb Raider and Mortal Kombat did better, but they were arguably more adventure/fantasy than horror/scifi).
- I’m not familiar with the video game on which the film is based, so I didn’t watch it through the lens of a gamer’s nostalgia. The film is very average, the computer-generated effects are poor, and the whole thing wouldn’t be worth watching were it not for Milla Jovovich. To be honest, I expected as much, and I intend to watch the whole series just for her (though I’m not sure if I’ll manage it).
- As a big fan of splatter and horror films i was gladly surprised when i watched this. I haven't played the game so i had no idea what to expect and had nothing to compare with. I really feel that this pays homage to the old zombie films at least to an extent. The zombies here are a little bit faster though.
- Watching this as a kid was awesome. As an adult my eyes are open to much more. Terrible script and dog shit plotting are what really hold it back. The “industrial-electronic” score consistently underwhelms too. Looking past all this, I still had fun with Resident Evil. Even though it deviates from its source material, it’s not quite as egregious as some would make it out to be. The action is consistently entertaining. Watching Mila Jovovich shoot and jump kick her way through hordes of dogs and zombies didn’t get old. There’s five more of these so we will see if that holds true. What was truly the highlight of the movie for me was the interior design. Every set has this futuristic gleem that only seemed to be captured in the early aughts and it helps pull together some great set pieces through out. Regardless of what can be said, good or bad about this movie, no one can deny how iconic that laser hallway was.
