Where to Watch Voltes V
- DarioOctober 4, 2026The combining sequence is still brilliant, but what surprised me on returning to Voltes V is how much drama was hiding behind it. Missing fathers, mixed heritage, discrimination, an oppressed population rebelling against a tyrant and one of the genre’s great tragic antagonists all sit beneath the weekly giant-robot battles. It is repetitive and very 1977 in places, but the final stretch genuinely earns its melodrama. For anyone who grew up with the English dub in the Philippines, it is difficult to separate the series from the bizarre fact that Marcos made sure we never got the last four episodes.
