Le Silence de La mer was a really unexpectedly moving movie This movie has the ability to leave you feeling so completely conflicted. I, like the female lead in this movie was left wondering a lot of things. I was feeling hate for the enemy but also curiosity and attraction towards this one particular man too. Oh the YEARNING! I’ve never wanted two people to embrace so badly and yet also at the same time wanted this young woman to keep her mind off this man and distract herself in any way necessary. Yes AND no. Why did he have to be that handsome and that gentle, personable and kind? My mind was going to explode. Can a man still be genuinely good even when he is a cog in a machine of evil? Does it matter if a man only joined the military because his family expected it? Can you divorce a man from the evil his uniform implies even if he may have never actively participated in it himself? I imagine these are the kinds of questions the female lead was grappling with and yet her words and actions never betrayed her internal conflicts. I find it wild that a movie with such little dialogue has stirred so much emotion in me. This was such a masterful story and told in such a beautiful way. The actors made me feel the yearning, the female lead with just ONE word. Bravo!
