A good expansion of the story found in the Captain's log from Bram Stoker's Dracula. While the story's ending was somewhat constrained, the character development was excellent and had me rooting for the poor characters who were placed once again into one of the ultimate literary battles between good and evil...

My quick rating - 6.3/10. I went into The Last Voyage of the Demeter knowing the basic premise and honestly wondering how they were going to stretch one chapter of Bram Stoker's Dracula into a nearly two-hour movie. Turns out, putting Dracula on a ship with nowhere for anyone to escape is a pretty solid start. The first thing that grabbed me was just how good this movie looks. The Demeter itself feels alive, and not in the friendly Disney ship kind of way. Every hallway. Dark corner. Even a creaking floorboard feels like something horrible is waiting around the next bend. Half the movie takes place in near-total darkness, and that works. Every time somebody wandered off alone, I knew they were about to have a really bad evening. What I really liked was the crew. They actually feel like real people instead of the usual collection of horror movie victims waiting for their turn. Liam Cunningham does a great job as the captain, trying to keep everyone together while things slowly spiral into complete chaos. Watching the crew slowly realize they're trapped on a floating buffet for Dracula was half the fun. To be fair, if I were on a ship and people kept disappearing every night after loading a suspicious coffin from Transylvania, I probably would've connected the dots a little sooner. All the horror aspects are executed very well. There are jump scares, but the constant feeling of uneasiness is what got to me. In this movie, Dracula is not a romantic gentleman in a cape but rather an outright horror monster. Transformation effects are executed superbly, while the killings that do happen have no restrictions at all. The gore isn't over-the-top, but just brutal enough to show us how this version of Dracula wouldn’t want to be interviewed. Some people will probably say the movie drags in the middle, and at 118 minutes, I get it. Personally, I wasn't bothered. The slower pace gave me time to get invested in the crew before Dracula inevitably turned their workplace into the world's least enjoyable cruise. The ending didn't completely land for me and seemed to be setting things up a bit too much. This wasn’t enough to prevent me from thoroughly enjoying this flick. The Last Voyage of the Demeter turned out to be a good-looking gothic horror movie full of atmosphere, fine acting, creepy monsters, and lots of suspense. If you're a fan of Dracula, classic Gothic horror, or just enjoy watching people realize they're trapped. On a ship. Soon to be served up as dinner for Dracula, this is well worth checking out.

Wonderful set design, eery atmosphere, and a solid monster design make this a really good creature feature. It’s pretty light on story essentially adapting a single chapter of Bram Stoker’s Dracula into a feature length film, but let’s be honest. The entire draw for this film is…Dracula on a boat. And it delivers in that regard. It definitely leans in on jump scares for most of it’s scares, but there’s a good amount of other spine tingling moments as well, particularly when someone just catches a brief glimpse something in the night. The maritime setting is incorporated really effectively. Communicating via knocks on the hull, allocation of rations, managing night watches, are woven into the plot in meaningful ways beyond just setting the stage. I really enjoyed this. Worth checking out.

Atmospheric, but Overstretched "The last voyage of the Demeter" is a film that gets many of the technical and atmospheric elements right, but ultimately struggles with pacing and narrative weight. There's a strong sense of mood throughout, and on a purely aesthetic level the movie often works very well. The locations and production design are effective, creating a confined and oppressive setting that fits the story. The cinematography makes good use of shadows and space, while the music reinforces the tension without becoming overbearing. Performances are solid across the board, grounding the film and helping maintain a serious, committed tone. Where the film falters is in its rhythm. Several scenes linger longer than they should, stretching moments that don't add much new to the story. As a result, the movie feels overlong for what it's actually trying to tell, with tension occasionally giving way to repetition rather than escalation. "The last voyage of the Demeter" is competently made and often engaging, but its impact is dulled by pacing issues. With a tighter edit and more narrative momentum, it could have been far more effective.

Neither very bad nor very good, I'd give it a 5 out of 10. The cast is good, the script isn't bad. There are too many dialogue scenes and I got bored while watching it; the production seems inadequate. Some action scenes are too short. Is it worth watching? If you like this type of production, give it a chance.

A slightly gory movie. Age 13+. I liked it a lot. Umm, some moments I found myself saying "why would you do that crew mate”. Predictable, not realistic thinking. Director and writer could have made a better movie. All the actors/actress were phenomenal. Ending was the way I thought it would be. Worth the time to watch💯. Not really rewatch able to me though. It could have been written better. 3 1/2 out of 5 stars for me. Fair I think.

Well done even though you know how it's going to end. Love the take on Dracula's monster form how they incorporated facial expressions, which made him more sinister. If you're a Dracula fan it's worth the watch.
