Where to Watch Pandorum
- ### **Two Nightmares, One Spaceship** Third time watching *Pandorum*, and I think I like it more each time. The *Alien* influence is obvious, but *Pandorum* has enough of its own ideas to keep it interesting. The opening scenes crawling through the ship's tubes and tunnels are especially well shot. You can practically feel the walls closing in, and they establish a great sense of claustrophobia right from the beginning. What's interesting is that the movie is essentially **two different movies sharing the same spaceship**. One is a psychological horror story about pandorum and what prolonged isolation can do to the mind. The other is an *Alien*-like creature feature, complete with monsters, chases, fights, and some colorful NPCs encountered along the way. I enjoyed both sides, although I can see first-time viewers finding the sudden shifts between psychological horror and action/creature feature a little jarring. The production still looks great. Beautiful spaceship sets, good cinematography, decent CGI on the exterior shots, and some genuinely exciting chase and fight sequences. It does a particularly good job of making the ship feel enormous while simultaneously making individual spaces feel horribly confined. It isn't as elegant or focused as *Alien*, but it doesn't need to be. It's a fun, ambitious sci-fi horror movie that has held up surprisingly well, especially after three viewings.
