Where to Watch Memphis Belle
- A retelling of the Memphis Belle story, filmed with as much real equipment as possible, and on location. So far I'm thinking, what's not to like? Indeed when the movie gets going, it's pretty okay. But when the entire first half is exclusively insipid vaguely homoerotic filler, one can't help but get a little impatient. And then when the action finally does arrive, it's highly fictionalized, riddled with factual errors and painfully forced melodrama. Some acting is also pretty poor, with Modine's performance being especially wooden. Almost none of the movie is truthful. Any bomber that made it to 24 runs was expected to phone in their last run as they were much more useful as a propaganda vessel begging for war bonds than they were flying to their target, inevitably missing by miles, and hitting a school for deaf children instead.
