Wow.......not sure I can ever watch this again, but unsettlingly impressive
  • Ben Wheatley's Kill List starts as a grim British crime thriller and mutates into something far more disturbing. Jay and Gal, former soldiers turned contract killers, take an assignment that leads into ritual murder, occult symbols and increasingly inexplicable behaviour. Its strength is refusing to explain itself too quickly. Information arrives in fragments, and small details gain significance later. Wheatley cares more about his characters' psychological deterioration than the brutal violence, and the handheld camerawork makes even domestic scenes threatening. The folk-horror element emerges slowly. There's no picturesque village or stone circle, just modern men inside an older belief system they barely understand. The cult's rituals suggest hidden continuity between contemporary violence and ancient sacrifice. The horror doesn't replace the crime story; it reveals that the crime story was never what it seemed. Folk horror in disguise, and the disguise gradually falls apart.

Audio quality so terrible I cannot hear the dialogue at max volume in a silent house. That pretty much sets the mood for what I expect for 'quality' from the rest of the movie.
