A deaf mute European-American writer in her 20's who retreated to the woods to live in solitude must fight for her life in silence when a masked serial killer appears at her window.
- ## Synopsis A deaf and mute writer who has moved into the woods, is trapped by a seditious masked killer who shows up outside her house after killing her friend and neighbor. ## Review Knowing what I know now, I wonder if this was part of the inspiration for John Krasinski to make [[The Quite Place]]. The lack of music and sound at times, pulls you into this story. Most of the problems with this is more about the plot armor than anything else. So the setting makes a lot of sense for what is going on. A lone in the woods is what makes sense for this situation. Where you kind of lose me is the why. Why did this dude attack the neighbor? Why did he attack her? Yes, he is sociopathic, psychotic, etc., etc. but what caused him to go that direction. It is refreshing that he didn't spill his guts before almost killing the girl, but his arch still makes no sense. Kate Siegel is outstanding in this. She isn't deaf, but she plays someone that is very well. Yes, they could have provided the role to someone who was actually deaf, but we are not getting into that. What's done is done. She plays it so well and I enjoyed watching it years ago when this came out and then when I watched it this time. However, I am very confused as to how some of the plot points work out. Without giving the story away, she gets hurt, but not hurt enough to lose that much blood. Then, the dude who is can hear doesn't hear her scurrying around outside, unless it makes sense for the plot. Then she manages to move just in time to stab him in the knee, but he is able to move more than she can with the same energy? There is just a lot of plot armor for her based on the descriptions they give. ## [My Rating] I enjoy the premise of this movie so much. It makes so much sense and the story is compelling. I do wish there was a bit more intelligence to both the heroin and the bad guy, but I was still entertained. I highly suggest you watch this just to experience a different type of horror. It is a 7. ## [Parental Rating] There is limited language, speaking that most of the movie has little to no words in it. However, when words are said by the bad guy, he does choose some very choice ones that most people don't like. There is a significant amount of blood. While the amount of language is limited, I still think dad would be upset, however, not too upset. So I am going to say approved by Dad, barely, and rejected by mom.
- This horror movie is one of the best I have seen by far. The story is so interesting, and everything makes sense. It has lots of plot twists/turns and it has an extreme satisfying ending. Most horror movies leave you wanting more. Like when the masked Killer finds out Sarah is actually deaf/mute and lives alone he makes up his mind to kill her. It is also very realistic and amazing job done by the actors! For only 5 characters this is a very amazing movie and I would definitely recommend this movie.
- In a home invasion streak, I stumbled upon Hush and was very excited because it was early Mike Flanagan, a director I think is the best in the horror genre right now. I had high hopes for it, but I left kind of disappointed. The movie revolves around the gimmick that the main character is deaf and mute, so obviously an invader has a massive upper hand. I thought the beginning of the movie was strong, where the antagonist feels truly threatening and creepy. However, early on, it becomes clear the antagonist of this movie is interested in playing with her, and so what follows is a series of confusing decisions that really neuter the threat of the antagonist. I think the movie would have been much stronger had it showcased him actually trying to attack her from the beginning and how she finds unique ways to fight back. The antagonist also speaks, which I think severely downgrades his presence. I did appreciate that the movie showcases Kate Siegel's decent acting chops, and the protagonist is much more compelling than most in these types of movies. I felt much more could have been done from an audiovisual perspective, especially in terms of putting the viewers in the shoes of a deaf character. Flangan is extremely good with the technical aspects of filmmaking, but unfortunately, I did not find much to appreciate in this earlier work of his. I think there are a handful of decent scenes and an interesting premise, but mostly I would suggest to skip this movie.
- Hear me out! The movie was intense, the story grew on me, & i enjoyed the overall introduction of the plot! Hidden tense and twisted feelings grew as the masked-man tried to kill the youth,Maddie Young, who self-defended well with her built-in character. For anyone awaiting to watch this movie...go ahead!
- Twice after force adverts it has just started Hell House. A 2hr film that looks like a documentary. I never heard of it or care to watch it. When I press stop it just continues playing so I have to disconnect the stream & connect again to watch the film I'm watching! This is so annoying I'll be uninstalling the app after I've watched this 90min film that's taking over 2hrs to watch!
I don't want to watch Hell House
