Where to Watch His House
- Andy Davidson | folknhell.comApril 27, 2026Remi Weekes' His House begins with escape from one nightmare and arrival in another. Bol and Rial flee South Sudan and are placed in a bleak English house while their asylum claim is processed. The promised refuge becomes another kind of imprisonment. The threat is rooted in Dinka folklore, particularly the apeth, but the film uses it to explore displacement, grief and survivor's guilt. The house is superbly unsettling: walls seem to hold memories as well as ghosts, and ordinary domestic spaces turn labyrinthine. What makes it fascinating as folk horror is that folklore travels with people. This isn't outsiders discovering an ancient English village's traditions; Bol and Rial carry their own beliefs into a foreign landscape. The frightening thing is a belief that survives because those who hold it can't escape their past. The supernatural frightens, but the human trauma gives it lasting power.
- MR. WHAT ZIT TOOYAFebruary 18, 2026The theme of this movies is based on survivor's guilt. I really like how they put the movie together but the reason why i gave it a 4 out of 5 is because some parts of the movie you might get lost and you might have to watch a youtube video "his house ending explained" to catch up on somethings if you felt like you missed something
