Zero action, but it still manages to keep you completely on edge just through the dialogue and paranoia.

Pretty good. Completely possible to fall in love with AI. The billionaire with no gun? Completely unrealistic...comon!

The movie that put A24 on the map. It's so good too as well as expertly directed. Tense, Sexy, Scary and even cathartic. What would you have done in his shoes?

Having watched Ex Machina 12 years after its release, it really shows how far we have come in the evolution of AI since then. Being someone that build AI agents for a living right now, I didn't really see Ava do anything that it couldn't have been programmed to do unless Nathan set safeguards (like harming humans in order to achieve its instructed goal) that were not discussed in the film. This is coming from a 2026 perceptive though, not 2014.

I love Alicia Vikander even in AI version.

A classic in the genre, there are many questionable actions by the characters that are considered really smart, but I guess it was necessary to make the movie happen.

It’s a blend of intellectually stimulating science fiction, psychological thriller, and philosophical drama, complete with one of the best finales I've ever seen.

Rather than treating artificial intelligence as a technological spectacle, Ex Machina approaches it as a philosophical question. Alex Garland builds an intimate psychological thriller that relies more on conversation, observation, and uncertainty than conventional science fiction spectacle. Alicia Vikander delivers a remarkably controlled performance, while Domhnall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac provide strong contrasts that allow the film's central ideas to develop naturally. The result is a concept that remains consistently engaging because it seems far more interested in human nature than in technology itself. What ultimately held the film back for me was that its most compelling ideas arrived well before its final moments. Once the philosophical foundation had been established, I found myself waiting for the story to challenge those ideas in a more surprising or meaningful way. Instead, the final act felt more like a continuation of what had already been established than a genuine evolution of it. Even with that reservation, Ex Machina remains one of the more thoughtful science fiction films of recent memory because it trusts its ideas enough to let them drive the story rather than simply decorate it.

Watching this after 8 years and it’s even better on a rewatch. Every dialogue is so meticulously chosen, providing both serious philosophical reflection as well as punchy humour. The visual and auditory aesthetics of this movie are really well done, it’s sublime. And every actor did an absolutely brilliant job, from Oscar Isaac’s charisma to Domhnall Gleeson‘s unraveling and Alicia Vikander’s robotic display that almost borders human emotions. I think this movie will continue to remain timeless.

A decent watch but it left me feeling like it could have been so much more than was delivered. AV was perfect in the role but she needed more to deliver a great performance. Too slim a cast hurt this one but of course, that's the design.
