Where to Watch Conan the Barbarian
- I revisit this movie every few years, and this time it came off a bit dry. The acting is rough, but that’s half the fun. Any film where Arnold punches an animal instantly earns a laugh from me—those moments are probably why I keep coming back. Maybe next time I’ll just YouTube the best clips. James Earl Jones is rocking some truly majestic hair and eyes here, and his snake transformation is so hilariously terrible that it becomes perfect. If they ever remake this with gloriously bad practical monsters, I’ll be the first one in line. Krom.
- One of those movies I'd catch scenes of as a kid on TV but had never seen from front to back and boy was I missing out all these years, Conan fucking rules. John Milius directs the hell out of this, I was locked in from start to finish. The production and costume design are incredible, that score from Basil Poledouris was iconic, a trifecta of perfection. James Earl Jones playing the villainous Doom nails it as always, we can't wait for Conan to get his revenge. Arnold basically aura farming for the entire runtime, especially that final ten minutes, it gave me literal goosebumps. Sandahl Bergman's performance as Valeria was my favorite she is a total bad ass and I loved her. She kicks so much ass, during the orgy battle she racks up a higher body count then Conan and does it with style. Humor, Heart, Blood and Boobs, this has it all and deserves the classic status it has earned. 👍👍 9/10 *When I was 7 I'd stay up till 1am on Saturdays to watch new episodes of Siskel & Ebert and I'd see the name Conan on the same channel scrolling to CTV and for awhile just thought that channel was playing this movie every Saturday night not realizing it was just a repeat of an episode of Late Night with Conan O' Brien lol
- This movie absolutely rocks. The music is legendary, the world feels huge and brutal and mythic, and every scene just drips with old-school fantasy atmosphere. Arnold is perfect as Conan — quiet, intense, and totally believable — and the whole thing feels like a metal album cover come to life. It’s a little slow and very 80s in places, but honestly that just adds to the vibe. An all-time classic if you like swords, sorcery, and epic fantasy.
- An absolute Beast of a Film. The one that Started Arnold's Career, and Terminator cemented him as an Icon. This was panned back in the day be Critics, which was okay it told us that it was going to be fun, Thing is we didn't agree with the critics back then but at least they had a standard to go by, and that films had to be measured by whether they were Academy Award films, everything else was garbage to them. Now a days the critics just pander to the film studios for access and promote the absolute garbage of films. oh, how the times have changed
- This movie has not aged very well. The pacing is too slow and the plot is paper thin. Arnold is always fun to watch, but the characters have so little dialogue that no one has much of a personality. Also, something that always bothers me: it's obvious that the people involved in the Conan movies (this one, the sequel and the one from 2011) have never read a Conan story. Sure, our hero is very strong, but he is also incredibly clever, resourceful, charismatic and able to talk his way out of most situations. Sort of a James Bond or Jason Bourne type, but with great physical strength and using a sword instead of a gun. Maybe someday someone with a hefty budget and a true knowledge of Conan will make a proper movie or even better a TV show. But for now we have these nostalgic but lame movies.
