Never heard of it and had no idea the story, but loved it.

A tight, tense thriller that I thought (more than once) was going to turn into a gritty Home Alone sequel...but, thankfully, did not! PS: I want my dying words to be helpful exposition 🤣

Dirty, gritty, low-budget, and simple. Almost everything about Blue Ruin works because the film embraces those qualities rather than trying to hide them. The awkwardness of the main character’s performance actually works in the movie’s favor. He doesn’t feel like a polished movie protagonist, and that’s the point. He feels uncomfortable, unprepared, and out of place in the world he’s suddenly trying to navigate. That gives the film a grounded quality that a more conventional performance probably would have taken away. It isn’t without its hiccups or flaws, and I wouldn’t go as far as some of the reviews that call it a great indie film. There are moments where the simplicity works against it, and a few choices don’t land as well as others. But for the most part, Blue Ruin is an enjoyable and effective thriller that knows exactly how much it needs to show you. It’s quiet. It doesn’t constantly explain itself or tell you what you’re supposed to think. Instead, it lets the story slowly reveal itself and trusts the audience to follow along. Not the great indie masterpiece some make it out to be, but definitely worth the time.

The first entry in the Incompetence Trilogy. A suspenseful revenge thriller with characters that really need some common sense.

I had just watched Green Room and thought I’d stick with the writer which lead me here. I actually found this movie to be more on the boring side. I didn’t find the characters all that interesting. The general story was decent, but the movie seemed to drag.

Great Indie thriller and the characters particularly the protagonist is someone to care about as he meanders through decisions and the consequences. A well made movie indeed.
