A young man devotes all his energy to becoming a professional footballer. He carries the hopes of his mother and two half-brothers. Working in a factory during the day, he denies himself any leisure time or romantic relationships. But he succumbs to the charms of a local journalist twenty years his senior. His loved ones see this as a betrayal of the hopes they had placed in him. Bernard Stora captures life in a disadvantaged social milieu without miserabilism, accurately describes the daily life of a working-class family, and films athletes in action in close-up. There is something of Ken Loach in this way of getting so close to the characters, of taking an interest in the reality of ordinary people. » Le Nouvel Obs.
